San Jose Earthquakes and Vancouver Whitecaps played out a 1-1 draw in their MLS clash, as Corey Hertzog cancelled out Chris Wondolowski's first-half strike.
The Earthquakes started well and could have been in the lead as early as the fifth minute when Alan Gordon found Chris Wondolowski in the box, but he couldn't poke the ball past Joe Cannon.
Cannon did well to deny Wondolowski minutes later when the strike burst into the penalty area, but the Whitecaps keeper got down low to make a good stop.
However, Wondolowski finally got on the scoresheet when Gordon placed a through-ball to him and he made no mistake firing past Cannon, after Vancouver had lost possession on the edge of their own box.
After half time Cannon was in the action yet again; this time he dove bravely at the feet of Gordon to get to the ball just in time as the striker looked to turn Nigel Reo-Coker's deflected free kick into the net.
That stop proved to be crucial for the Whitecaps as Hertzog levelled for Vancouver when he picked up Daigo Kobayashi's deflected shot and turned the ball past Jon Busch into the bottom corner.
Both sides pushed for a late winner as San Jose's Steven Lenhart's header went just wide of the post, while Camilo Sanvezzo saw his late free kick for Vancouver saved by Busch, but the game ended all square.
