The Scottish FA announce former Bristol Rovers boss Mark McGhee's appointment as the national side's assistant manager.

The Scottish Football Association have announced that Mark McGhee will be Gordon Strachan's assistant manager in the national setup.

The 55-year-old has been named as one of the backroom staff three days after Strachan agreed to fill the managerial slot left vacant by sacked Craig Levein.

"I am immensely proud and honoured to be asked by Gordon to assist him as national coach," said McGhee. "There are few more passionate Scots around that Gordon and I am hugely excited by the challenge of taking our national team up the table in the FIFA World Cup qualifying group and, hopefully, helping to lead us to the Euro Championships in France in 2016."

McGhee takes on the national role after he was sacked as manager of Bristol Rovers in December.
