David Templeton believes that his chances of international football have improved now that Gordon Strachan has been appointed as Scotland coach.

Rangers winger David Templeton has his sights set firmly on a Scotland call-up now that Gordon Strachan has taken over as coach of the national team.

The 24-year-old believes that his chances of international football have significantly improved with the former Middlesbrough manager at the helm.

"Hopefully he'll not shut the door on anyone here and if I'm playing well it would be nice to think I might get a chance," Sky Sports News quotes Templeton as saying.

"With him being a winger himself, he might like that type of player and if I play well hopefully I can get a chance."

Although Strachan's predecessor Craig Levein called up Rangers midfielder Ian Black in the past, he expressed concerns that players in the Scottish Third Division may struggle at international level.

Templeton has earned caps for Scotland at Under-19 and Under-21 levels in the past.
