Scunthorpe United have announced the sacking of manager Russ Wilcox after less than a year in charge.
The 50-year-old replaced Brian Laws in November 2013 and took them from 12th in the League Two table to promotion as runners-up to champions Chesterfield, with the aid of a Football League record unbeaten run of 28 games upon his appointment.
However, the Iron have only won two of their opening 11 games of the season and have decided that a managerial change is needed, with the club currently in the League One relegation zone.
A statement on the club's Twitter account read: "Scunthorpe United have today terminated the contracts of manager Russ Wilcox and assistant manager John Schofield with immediate effect.
"The club would like to place on record their thanks to Russ and John for their efforts, but in particular to Russ for leading the Iron into League One."
Veteran left-back Andy Dawson will take charge of Saturday's game at Gillingham, assisted by Tony Daws.
