The away side took the lead after just 12 minutes through Jose Baxter, who finished well with his right foot from a Ryan Flynn pass to make it 1-0 and calm the game down.

The U's almost replied instantly after a superb solo run from Richard Tait, who found Adam Cunnington, although George Long closed the striker down and blocked well.

Luke Berry tested long again two minutes later, but the goalkeeper held the shot well.

Harrison Dunk made some space and came close to an equaliser for the hosts, but he could only fire over the bar.

Jamie Murphy doubled Sheffield United's lead on 58 minutes, cutting in from the left wing and firing into the bottom right corner.

Michael Doyle tested the home side again with a strike, but the goalkeeper saved well.

Berry had a late chance for Cambridge United, taking a cross from the left well before firing just wide of the mark.
