Southampton midfielder Steven Davis feels that his side took a "massive" step towards survival with a win over Chelsea.

Southampton midfielder Steven Davis feels that his side's win over Chelsea is a massive step forward in their quest for Premier League survival.

Goals from Rickie Lambert and Jay Rodriguez were enough to secure the three points for the Saints despite John Terry scoring a first-half equaliser.

"It was another massive performance from the boys today," Davis told the club's official website.

"It was a great effort from everybody, and we're delighted to get the three points which take us that bit closer to safety.

"It's still so close, though, so we're not going to get carried away, but we'll obviously take a lot of confidence from what we've done recently."

Southampton are now 12th in the Premier League and are four points clear of the relegation zone with seven games to play.
