Gareth Bale says that he will respect Wales and bow out of the London Olympics next year if the Welsh FA remain opposed to Team GB.

Tottenham Hotspur winger Gareth Bale has insisted that he would not consider competing in Great Britain's football team at the 2012 Olympics if it conflicted with Wales.

The 22-year-old, alongside Wales teammate and Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey, came under criticism after posing for promotional pictures in the Team GB kit.

While the winger has expressed interest in appearing in next year's London Olympics, Bale is willing to put his country first.

"The most important thing for me is Wales as a country," BBC Sport quotes Bale as saying. "I'm proud to play for Wales.

"If there was any possibility that Wales would go then obviously I wouldn't play [at the Olympics]."

The Welsh Football Association, as well as Ireland and Scotland, are opposed to the Olympic football team accumulating players from all nations.
