Andre Villas-Boas 'to receive £4.5m compensation package'

Andre Villas-Boas will apparently collect a £4.5m compensation package following his sacking by Tottenham, halfway into his £9m three-year contract.

Ousted Tottenham Hotspur manager Andre Villas-Boas will reportedly receive a £4.5m compensation package following his sacking on Monday.

The Portuguese tactician left Spurs, seventh in the Premier League table, by 'mutual consent' after their 5-0 thrashing by Liverpool this weekend - their heaviest home defeat in 16 years.

Villas-Boas took over at White Hart Lane last summer, signing a three-year contract worth £9m after his dismissal by their London rivals Chelsea, having been given less than a season at Stamford Bridge.

The London Evening Standard understands that the 36-year-old is in line to collect half of that figure as compensation after Spurs chairman Daniel Levy ended his tenure early, after 17 months.

Technical director Tim Sherwood has been appointed as caretaker boss for Tottenham's League Cup quarter-final with West Ham United on Wednesday and is the bookmakers favourite to replace Villas-Boas.
