Harry Kane hat-trick leads Tottenham Hotspur to win

Harry Kane scores his first Premier League hat-trick to lead Tottenham Hotspur to a 4-3 win over Leicester City at White Hart Lane.

Harry Kane scored a hat-trick as Tottenham Hotspur clinched a 4-3 win over Leicester City at White Hart Lane in the Premier League this afternoon.

The home side broke the deadlock just over five minutes into the tie as Kasper Schmeichel tried to punch an Eric Dier corner clear, but he could only glove it into the path of Kane, who was left with a simple tap in.

The soon-to-be England international added his second just a few minutes later when Kyle Walker crossed the ball in, leaving Kane to unleash a strike which deflected in off Robert Huth.

Christian Eriksen could have made it three when he tried to fire home, but the Dane's low strike from the edge of the box struck the post, while Andros Townsend put the rebound wide.

The visitors were back in the match just before half time, though, as David Nugent crossed the ball in for Jamie Vardy, who calmly slotted it in from close range.

Leonardo Ulloa had a chance to level just a couple of minutes later when a high ball forward found him in the box, but his header from just eight yards out went high.

The Foxes did find an equaliser just a couple of minutes into the second half when Ulloa made amends for his miss just before the interval by setting up Wes Morgan, who had been left unmarked in the box, for a free header.

The home side had the chance to retake the lead with just over an hour on the clock when Nugent brought down Danny Rose while trying to get the ball clear.

Spurs were awarded a penalty as a result, and Kane stepped up to send Schmeichel the wrong way, completing his hat-trick, which makes him the Premier League's top scorer this season.

Nacer Chadli could have added a fourth shortly after when Dier sprinted forward before crossing it in for the Belgian, but he sliced it over from just a couple of yards out.

Any hopes of a Leicester comeback were dealt a blow late on when Jeffrey Schlupp was in the wrong place at the wrong time, blocking an attempted clearance from Schmeichel to turn the ball into his own net.

Leicester gave themselves hope in stoppage time, though, as Nugent met a flick forward 20 yards out before holding off a couple of defenders to pick out the bottom corner, but they were unable to force an equaliser in the final seconds.

The result leaves Spurs seventh in the table, while Leicester remain rooted to the bottom.
