Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly unlikely to try to sign a new striker during the January transfer window.

Tottenham Hotspur are reportedly unlikely to sign a direct replacement for Harry Kane during the January transfer window.

Although Spurs cashed in on their legendary striker in the summer, they opted against acquiring a like-for-like alternative for the club's record goalscorer.

Instead, Brennan Johnson was brought in from Nottingham Forest to add to their present senior options, with the preference being to move Son Heung-min from a wide position into the middle.

Since then, Spurs have enjoyed their best start to a Premier League campaign for some time, going 10 matches unbeaten before defeats to Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers before the international break.

Despite the considerable amount of players that arrived at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in the summer, the funds generated from Kane's sale means that January additions are likely.

A central defender is deemed to be the priority for Spurs, who lack strength-in-depth in that area, but it is thought that another centre-forward could be targeted.

Son has scored exactly a third of Spurs' 24 goals in the Premier League this season, with Johnson and Richarlison having just one strike apiece.

Alejo Veliz has bene provided with 10 minutes of top-flight football spread across three substitute appearances, but the young Argentine is not regarded as a senior player at the present time.

Nevertheless, according to Football Insider, there are currently no plans in place for further competition to be added down the middle of the attack.

Postecoglou is said to be content with the options that he has available and a wide player is more likely to be signed instead.

There are several players in the Spurs senior ranks that could be moved out to facilitate incomings, with Giovani Lo Celso the latest to be linked with an exit.

Eric Dier is out of contract in the summer and offers will be entertained for his services, while there may be developments regarding Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg's situation despite his recent game time.

With no EFL Cup or European football on their calendar, Spurs' focus for the remainder of the season is securing a top-four place in the Premier League and the FA Cup.
