Andros Townsend boosted by conversation with Roy Hodgson

Andros Townsend claims that a conversation with Roy Hodgson cheered him up following his recent injury.

Andros Townsend has revealed that a conversation with England manager Roy Hodgson improved his morale following his recent ankle injury.

The Tottenham Hotspur winger was ruled out of this summer's World Cup due to ligament damage, but he has claimed that Hodgson is keeping him in his plans for the future after using him during the latter stages of their qualifying campaign.

"I'm devastated to get injured in a World Cup year and not be available for selection, but I had the operation last week and hopefully I can get back for pre-season," Townsend told reporters.

"Roy gave me a call and said I've got time on my side and he is looking forward to welcoming me back into the fold when I'm fit. I was down and to hear that cheered me up a bit."

Townsend will be working under a different manager next season after Spurs confirmed the sacking of Tim Sherwood on Tuesday.
