Sunderland manager Martin O'Neill laughs off talk that his side can secure a European place at the end of the season.

Sunderland boss Martin O'Neill has laughed off suggestions that his side could snatch a European place come the end of the season.

The Black Cats, who have won four of their last six games, are currently eighth in the Premier League table.

"Its nonsense, nonsense," he told reporters. "Imagine sitting here talking about that in the first days of February? Seriously. Don't get carried away. Please.

"It's a good landmark to have 30 points at this stage, but the division is so congested that you can go from eighth to 13th or something like that."

Sunderland travel to Stoke City in the league on Saturday.
