Gus Poyet: 'Time is running out for Sunderland'

Sunderland boss Gus Poyet delivers a stark warning to his team following yesterday's goalless draw at home to Norwich City.

Sunderland manager Gus Poyet has spoken frankly about his team's chances of avoiding relegation from the Premier League this season.

The Black Cats are without a win in six games following yesterday's goalless draw at home to Norwich City and are rooted to the foot of the table.

With his team stuck on 10 points, Poyet, who took the reins in October following Paolo Di Canio's departure, said that his 40-point target is looking ever more unlikely.

"We are losing time, we are losing games," Poyet told reporters. "I said in the beginning after winning a couple, we needed to win 11 to think, 'Can we get to 40 [points]?', and we can't win a football game, so who are you going to blame?

"This is where we are. The quality is what you see, there is no more."

The Mackems travel to Everton on Boxing Day.
