Gylfi Sigurdsson backtracks on Garry Monk comments

Swansea City midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson says that his comments about Garry Monk in the Icelandic media were misconstrued.

Swansea City midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson has claimed that comments attributed to him about the club's manager Garry Monk were misconstrued, insisting that the club's players and managers do communicate well with each other.

Sigurdsson was quoted as saying that Monk does not communicate with his playing staff and that he did not congratulate the Icelandic international on his country's qualification to Euro 2016.

However, the 26-year-old has now insisted that he had been misunderstood in the original interview he gave with Icelandic outlet futbolti.net, and said that he was congratulated by Monk, although he also stressed that that was not important to him.

"I would like to point out that it was not important for me to receive a text from the manager to congratulate me on qualification," he told the South Wales Evening Post. "More importantly, he did indeed congratulate me face to face when I returned from national team duty after having played Holland and Kazakhstan.

"I simply did not choose the right words to answer the question I was asked in the interview, which created this unfortunate misunderstanding.

"I am very happy at Swansea and my relationship with the manager is very good. I have good communication with him, as do the rest of the players."

Sigurdsson has played 48 times and scored 11 goals in his second spell at the Swans since rejoining the club from Tottenham Hotspur in 2014.
