Juventus leave it late in Turin derby

Arturo Vidal and Claudio Marchisio score in the final five minutes for Juventus to earn them a 2-0 victory over Torino in the Turin derby.

Juventus have defeated Torino 2-0 in the Turin derby at the Stadio Olimpico di Torino in Serie A, thanks to late goals from Arturo Vidal and Claudio Marchisio.

Antonio Conte's side had the game's opening chance after 11 minutes when Mirko Vucinic took an angled drive towards the Torino goal, but it went wide.

Then Vidal came close with a header from a Stephan Lichtsteiner cross before Marchisio tried his luck with a curling effort but in vain.

Juventus continued to press on for the opening goal against their Turin rivals, while Torino's first genuine attempt came after 25 minutes when Rolando Bianchi tried to head home Angelo Ogbonna's corner but failed to keep it on target.

Marchisio thought that he had broken the deadlock when he found the target, but it was ruled out as play had already been stopped because of offside.

Torino could have taken the lead much against the run of play three minutes before half time when Mario Santana shot on target, but goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon parried it away from under the bar.

Vucinic again went close at the start of the second half when his deflected effort went inches past the post and minutes later Paul Pogba failed with a long-range attempt.

Juventus eventually broke the deadlock in the 86th minute when Vidal found the target with a half-volley from just outside the Torino penalty area after being teed up by Marchisio.

The Italian midfielder etched his own name on the scoresheet in the first minute of injury time when he headed home from close range, after Torino's Kamil Glik had been sent off for a second bookable offence.
