West Bromwich Albion forward Jay Rodriguez submits an appeal against his FA charge for alleged racial abuse.

West Bromwich Albion forward Jay Rodriguez is contesting his Football Association charge for alleged racism.

The player has submitted an appeal presenting what he claims is evidence that he did not racially abuse Brighton & Hove Albion defender Gaeten Bong, as claimed.

According to The Times, the written appeal includes character statements from players and managers at several English clubs, as well as testimony from a lip reader stating that Rodriguez did not use racially abusive language during his confrontation with Bong.

The two players were involved in a spat during Albion's 2-0 victory over the Seagulls earlier this year.

After the match, the FA confirmed that it would be proceeding with disciplinary action against Rodriguez, who faces a five-match ban if found guilty.

A three-person independent disciplinary panel will decide whether the player's appeal is successful.
