West Ham United hit back to earn point against Bournemouth

West Ham United and Bournemouth maintain their respective unbeaten runs in the Premier League by playing out a 1-1 draw at the London Stadium.

Substitute Javier Hernandez struck two minutes after Ryan Fraser had opened the scoring as West Ham United played out a 1-1 draw with Bournemouth at the London Stadium this afternoon.

The Cherries found a way through with 19 minutes of the contest remaining, only for Hernandez - previously without a goal in his last nine outings - to tuck home a loose ball and earn his side a point.

Bournemouth are now four points clear of the relegation zone after extending their unbeaten run to five Premier League matches, while the Hammers are also without defeat since before Christmas.

After playing out a thrilling 3-3 draw at the Vitality Stadium last month, taking the tally of goals in this fixture to 23 in the previous five encounters, much was expected from the clash in East London.

Aaron Cresswell sent a long-range drive narrowly wide early on and Mark Noble volleyed a 20-yard attempt onto the roof of the net as the hosts made a bright start to the contest.

A well-taken header from Pedro Obiang then forced Asmir Begovic into action as Bournemouth struggled to get going, and the Bosnian keeper was again required to thwart Marko Arnautovic soon after.

Arnautovic was to fire in another warning shot before the Cherries finally woke up, with Lewis Cook curling an effort narrowly wide and Dan Gosling failing to make the desired contact with his attempt.

Having had an early penalty appeal turned down in the second half, after the ball popped up and hit the hand of Nathan Ake, United pushed on and came close through Pablo Zabaleta's teasing cross that needed dealing with by Begovic.

West Ham were dealt a blow shortly after the hour mark when in-form attacker Manuel Lanzini hobbled down the tunnel with an apparent hamstring injury, moments after witnessing Arnautovic squander a glorious chance when played through, which signalled Hernandez's introduction.

Then came a frantic period in the match as, after Fraser beat Zabaleta for pace and smashed the ball past Adrian at his near post, Hernandez converted up the other end following a blocked Arnautovic shot.

There was to be no further chances for either side, however, meaning that West Ham missed out on the opportunity to make it thre -successive top-flight wins for the first time in a year.
