Newcastle United are said to be weighing up a move for West Ham United forward Modibo Maiga.
Aside from their recent high-scoring defeats to Manchester United and Arsenal, the Magpies have found goals difficult to come by this season.
Their situation is unlikely to be aided by the seemingly inevitable departure of Demba Ba.
Manager Alan Pardew wants to add another striker to his squad during this month's transfer window and he is understood to be in talks with Marseille over a possible deal to bring Loic Remy to Tyneside.
According to the Daily Mail, Remy is Newcastle's first choice but Pardew will switch his attention to signing Maiga should he miss out on the Marseille man, who has also been linked with interest from Tottenham Hotspur and Queens Park Rangers.
Maiga has scored four goals in 18 appearances for the Hammers this season.
