Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez believes that young winger Callum McManaman has been the victim of unfair criticism.
The 21-year-old made headlines when a tackle on Newcastle United defender Massadio Haidara left the full-back needing hospital treatment following Wigan's 2-1 victory almost a fortnight ago.
"I think we've been going on and on too much about it," Martinez said in a press conference. "I think it was a football incident. I think we've been talking too much about it and it's a bit unfair on a young man to have to suffer that."
The Football Association decided against taking retrospective action against McManaman for the incident.
