Roberto Martinez has conceded that Callum McManaman could miss Wigan Athletic's home match against Norwich City this weekend because of an ankle problem.
The winger has been in the headlines in recent days for a challenge that he made on Newcastle United's Massadio Haidara on March 17. Despite having caught the defender on the knee with his studs, McManaman escaped punishment from referee Mark Halsey and then the Football Association.
However, although he has not been suspended, manager Martinez has claimed that the 21-year-old may miss the visit of the Canaries anyway.
"Callum's been carrying an injury to his ankle, which caused him to be substituted against both Newcastle and Everton," the Spaniard is quoted as saying by Wigan Today.
"Our major concern now is making sure he's fully fit and able to take to the field against Norwich. He hasn't trained with the rest of the team yet, and the next 48 hours will be crucial."
McManaman has made 20 appearances in all competitions this season.
