Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez insists that their result against Reading on Saturday won't necessarily dictate their fate at the end of the season.

Wigan Athletic manager Roberto Martinez has revealed that he is targeting more consistency from his side for the remainder of the season.

The Latics are currently in 19th place in the Premier League table, and while Martinez admits that Saturday's match with Reading is important, he believes that consistency over a longer period of time will prove vital if they are to achieve survival.

Martinez told reporters: "I think sometimes you get carried away and you think that this is a vital game and if you win, you get three points but that doesn't guarantee you'll achieve your aim.

"In the same manner, if you lose and then go unbeaten until the end of the season, you'll achieve your aim.

"It is an important game but what's more important is that we can be consistent. It is a vital game because it's one of 12 games left, nothing else."

Wigan will move ahead of Reading in the league table if they can beat their rivals at the Madejski Stadium.
