Whelan: 'Chelsea's Moses bid unrealistic'

Wigan chairman Dave Whelan insists that the Latics want to keep hold of Victor Moses following an 'unrealistic' bid from Chelsea.

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has blasted Chelsea's attempts to sign forward Victor Moses.

It emerged earlier today that the Champions League winners were unsuccessful after lodging a surprise bid for the 21-year-old Nigeria international.

"Chelsea would need to get realistic before we would even listen to them," Whelan told ESPN. "They made a bid at 6pm last night and we turned it down flat.

"Roberto Martinez has brought this player on and he needs at least another year with Roberto to become a top player. We have offered him a new contract but it seems the agent, more than the player, wants to move him on - at least that is the impression we are getting."

Moses has just 12 months left on his current contract at the DW Stadium.
