Preview: Yeovil Town vs. Middlesbrough

Sports Mole previews the final-day Championship meeting between relegated Yeovil and Middlesbrough.

Yeovil Town will have their last hurrah in the Championship this weekend as they welcome Middlesbrough to Huish Park on the final day of the season.

A 2-0 defeat to Brighton & Hove Albion last Friday condemned the Glovers to relegation, while other results have since seen them fall seven points adrift of safety.

Gary Johnson would have known that he was in for a tough task in keeping his side in the division and they have certainly found things hard going throughout the campaign.

Just one victory in their last 12 matches has contributed to them sinking to the bottom of the table, which is a position they will occupy at the end of the season unless they pick up a rare win on Saturday.

They trail 23rd-placed Barnsley by two points but have a superior goal difference, meaning that a win for Yeovil coupled with a draw or defeat for the Tykes against Queens Park Rangers would lift them off the bottom.

However, the Glovers are without a win in their last five home matches, while they have only won twice in front of their own fans in the league since the beginning of December.

Johnson could opt to name an unchanged side for the final game of the campaign, with Kieffer Moore his only injury concern once again.

Boro, meanwhile, go into this weekend's encounter knowing that a win would be enough for them to seal a top-half finish this season. They are currently one point clear of Watford, who take on Huddersfield Town in their last game of the campaign.

Inconsistency has been a major issue all season for Aitor Karanka's side, but they did manage to string four wins together recently and have emerged victorious in five of their last seven outings.

They could still end the season within six points of the playoff positions depending on other results this weekend, and hopes will be high that they can make a renewed push for the top six next season.

However, they will need to improve their away form having won just two of their last nine matches on the road, scoring a measly five goals in the process.

Mustapha Carayol will once again miss the game through injury, while Jonathan Woodgate is a doubt. Danny Graham, meanwhile, is expected to lead the line in his last game for the club before his loan expires.
