Richard Gasquet has admitted that he was pleased with his form at the Australian Open after beating James Duckworth 6-2 6-3 7-5 in the second round on Wednesday.
The Frenchman was rarely troubled by the home favourite, despite the backing his opponent received, and he was quick to reveal his delight after recording a win over a player who forced him into five sets at last year's Wimbledon.
"I think I [played] very well. You never know what could happen in a serve, but I kept my serve, and I'm really happy to win in three sets because this is very dangerous player. He has a big serve. He's talented going to the net," the 24th seed told reporters.
"I think he will be a good player. For me it's a great result to win him in three set because I played in Wimbledon I did five. He can play well."
Gasquet will meet Kevin Anderson in the third round following the South African's straight-sets win over Ricardas Berankis.
