Milos Raonic has progressed to the third round of the Italian Open by beating Italy's Simone Bolelli in straight sets this evening.
Bolelli served well in the first set, and brought up an early break point against his opponent, but the Canadian saved it to keep the scores level.
The eighth seed recovered from a slow start to finish the opener strongly, eventually getting the break before serving out for a one-set lead.
The second set remained on serve throughout, but the Italian had a chance to level the match in the 12th game when he brought up two set points, but Raonic forced it to a tie-break.
The world number 10 slipped behind early on as Bolelli took a 4-2 advantage, but Raonic made a string of aces to get him back into contention and eventually seal the match 6-3 7-6(5).
Raonic will face either Kevin Anderson and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in the third round.
