Novak Djokovic beats Roger Federer to win fourth Italian Open title

Novak Djokovic beats Roger Federer 6-4 6-3 to win his fourth Italian Open title.

Novak Djokovic has clinched his fourth Italian Open title thanks to a straight-sets win over Roger Federer in Rome.

The world number one finished off Federer with one hour and 16 minutes on the clock as his preparation for the French Open ended in style.

There was little to separate the two men during the opening set, but Djokovic managed to save a break point at 4-4 before breaking himself to take it 6-4.

A string of errors put Federer on the back foot at the start of the second, and Djokovic was able to take advantage and open up a 2-0 lead. The Serbian then held his nerve to close out the contest 6-4 6-3 as Federer struggled to regain his composure.

Djokovic, who is undefeated on clay this season, has now won 19 of the last 41 Masters tournaments.
