Germany's Tommy Haas moves into round two of the Madrid Masters at the expense of Andreas Seppi.

Tommy Haas continued his recent positive form by defeating Andreas Seppi 6-1 6-2 in the opening round of the Madrid Masters this afternoon.

The German began the encounter positively and was able to win the first five games in a row. Seppi momentarily recovered to hold his serve and get a game on the board, but he was unable to prevent Haas from serving out to take the opening set.

He went on to dominate the second set as well, although Seppi did produce a large number of unforced errors. On this occasion the Italian did manage to win two games, but he was broken on a further two occasions as Haas won through.

World number 13 Haas will now face either Marcos Baghdatis or wildcard entry Tommy Robredo for a place in round three of the competition.
