US Open increases prize money

The United States Tennis Association announces an increase in prize money at the US Open from this year.

The United States Tennis Association has announced an increase in prize money at the US Open.

Following talks between players and the governing body, the prize fund will be increased by $4.1m to $33.6m (£22m) at this year's tournament. The total amount will then reach $50m (£33m) by the end of 2017.

Changes to the scheduling have also been confirmed, with the men's final reverting back to the second Sunday from 2015.

The two semi-finals will be played on the Friday as the event returns to a 14-day format.
