Samantha Stosur begun the defence of her US Open title with a 6-1 6-1 victory over Petra Martic at Flushing Meadows this afternoon.
Australian Stosur wasted little time in taking control of the match as she broke Martic at the first time of asking.
She continued to dominate, breaking her Croatian opponent once more to open up a five-game advantage.
A series of forehand winners in the sixth game saw Martic eventually get a score on the board, only for Stosur to then serve out to wrap up the opening set.
The second set mirrored the first, with Martic only able to record one more game against the defending champion.
Stosur will now play either Stefanie Voegele or Edina Gallovits-Hall for a place in round three.
