Red Bull Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund admits that in-demand attacker Dominik Szoboszlai is likely to leave in January.

Red Bull Salzburg sporting director Christoph Freund has conceded that Dominik Szoboszlai is likely to leave the Austrian club during the January transfer window.

The 20-year-old has been in strong form at club level during the 2020-21 campaign, scoring five goals and contributing nine assists in 14 appearances in all competitions.

A number of clubs, including Arsenal, Real Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur, have been credited with an interest in the Hungary international, who is thought to have a £23m release clause in his current deal.

Freund has said that there is "a high probability" that the attacker "will move to a big club" at the start of 2021.

"Of course you would like to have the player in the club as long as possible. On the other hand, it is also healthy if he takes the next step at the right time," Freund told Bild.

"Let's see what happens in winter, but there is a high probability that he will move to a big club. That is definitely a next step in development so that he can tap this potential and this performance with every game. I'm convinced that he can become one of the most interesting midfielders in Europe in the next few years."

Szoboszlai has scored 22 times and registered 33 assists in 75 outings for his current side.
