Preview: Blackpool vs. Norwich City

Sports Mole looks ahead to Saturday's Championship encounter between struggling Blackpool and high-flying Norwich at Bloomfield Road.

Two teams at opposite ends of the Championship table will go head to head this weekend as Blackpool host Norwich City at Bloomfield Road.

The Tangerines go into the match still looking for their first win of the season - one of only two teams not to have picked up maximum points so far.

There have, however, been slight signs of improvement in recent weeks, with two draws and only one goal conceded in their last three outings - all against playoff hopefuls.

Matters off the field continue to descend into chaos, however, with Jose Riga still in charge despite chairman Karl Oyston's public attempts to find a replacement.

The Belgian will feel that a first win of the campaign is not too far away, however, with his side looking to build off solid defensive foundations - only one team outside the top eight has conceded fewer goals this season.

It is at the other end where the main problem lies as the Seasiders have scored just three times in their opening eight games, comfortably the lowest tally in the league.

Home form is also a major issue, with Blackpool having lost seven of their last eight matches at Bloomfield Road and not won a match in front of their own fans since March.

At the other end of the spectrum, the Canaries are flying high in second place after eight games having remained unbeaten since the opening weekend.

They may feel that it should be even better after they could only draw at home to Birmingham City, although they were forced to come from two goals behind to rescue that point.

Despite their impressive form in the league, Neil Adams will need to pick his side up following a shock exit from the League Cup at the hands of Shrewsbury Town on Tuesday.

That ended a run of three straight victories on the road, but there were a couple of positives for Norwich as Jonny Howson and Gary Hooper made their returns from injury.

They could be in line to feature once again this weekend, although Adams is unlikely to risk them starting two games in the space of a week just yet.
