How Germany could line up against Switzerland

Sports Mole looks at how Germany could line up for Sunday's UEFA Nations League clash with Switzerland.

Germany will continue their 2020-21 UEFA Nations League campaign on Sunday when they travel to St. Jakob-Park for their showdown with Switzerland in Group A4.

Joachim Low's men seemed destined to take all three points against Spain in Thursday's opening fixture, but Jose Gaya cancelled out Timo Werner's opener five minutes into added time to salvage a point for Luis Enrique's side.

Having drawn two and lost two of their fixtures in the 2018-19 edition, securing a maiden victory in the Nations League this weekend will be of paramount importance to Low if Die Mannschaft are to push for a spot in the finals.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how Germany could line up for their meeting with Switzerland on Sunday.

Out: Kai Havertz (other)

With a quick turnaround in fixtures to contend with, Low will be expected to shuffle the pack for the weekend showdown with Switzerland despite being just mere seconds away from a victory over Spain in midweek.

The 60-year-old has already confirmed that Bernd Leno will start in between the sticks - replacing Kevin Trapp who played in midweek.

Low opted for a three-at-the-back system against Enrique's men, but the Germany manager may revert to a four-man defence against Vladimir Petkovic's men as they look to kickstart their Nations League campaign at the second time of asking.

However, one player who will play no part in the clash is Kai Havertz, with Die Mannschaft confirming that the midfielder has left the team hotel with a move to Chelsea now confirmed.

The 21-year-old was left on the bench for Germany's opening-day draw with Spain either way, and his departure from the camp all but guarantees that Julian Draxler can look forward to another start behind Timo Werner.

Paris Saint-Germain playmaker Draxler could be joined up top by Leroy Sane and Julian Brandt, the latter of whom will be vying for a spot in the first XI after being named amongst the substitutes in midweek.

Florian Neuhaus could potentially make his debut for Die Mannschaft alongside Toni Kroos in midfield, while Borussia Monchengladbach defender Matthias Ginter will look to earn a starting role in the heart of defence, meaning that Antonio Rudiger and Emre Can may be at risk of dropping down to the bench.
