New Leeds United manager Darko Milanic saw his side lose 2-0 at Griffin Park to bring their good run of form to an end.
The away side started brightly as Rodolph Austin tested David Button from range on nine minutes, but Brentford took control of the game and should have been ahead on the half-hour mark after Jason Pearce brought Andre Gray down in the box.
However, James Tarkowski sent the resulting penalty high over the Leeds goal.
Jota then spared Tarkowski's blushes when he struck in stoppage time to hand Brentford the half-time lead.
Alex Pritchard nearly extended Brentford's advantage on 72 minutes, but his effort was comfortably saved by Marco Silvestri.
Five minutes later Alan McCormack struck to make it 2-0 and secure the points for Brentford.
