James Milner: 'Liverpool got the job done at Roma'

James Milner admits that Liverpool "need to do better to see out games" but is pleased to have got "the job done" in their Champions League semi-final second leg at Roma.

James Milner has admitted that Liverpool "need to do better to see out games" but is pleased to have got "the job done" in their Champions League semi-final second leg at Roma.

The Reds boasted a 5-2 lead going into Wednesday's clash at the Stadio Olimpico but were made to sweat late on in the game, conceding twice in the last 10 minutes for an eventual 7-6 aggregate win.

Milner echoed captain Jordan Henderson's sentiments in believing that Liverpool need to shore up their guard late on in games, but insisted that the celebrations among the travelling Reds contingent made the overall result worthwhile.

"I don't know what to say after that," Milner told BT Sport at full time. "We know how to make it interesting, don't we? That's what it is all about though - these scenes right here.

"We know we need to do better to see out games. All in all I thought we played quite well but could have controlled it better.

"Nobody said getting to the Champions League final is easy and we've beaten some great teams on the way.

"It was about getting the job done and now we're through to the final. We have to enjoy this but not for too long as we have another important game this weekend."

Liverpool face Chelsea on Sunday before wrapping up the Premier League season at home to Brighton & Hove Albion, while the Champions League final takes place on May 26.
