Preview: Basel vs. Liverpool

Sports Mole looks ahead to Wednesday's Champions League encounter between Basel and Liverpool in Switzerland.

Liverpool can make it two wins from two in the Champions League on Wednesday when they travel to Switzerland to face Basel in Group B.

The Merseysiders opened their campaign two weeks ago with a narrow 2-1 victory over Bulgarian minnows Ludogorets.

However, their recent form in the Premier League has been shaky as two defeats and a draw in their last three games have left them in 13th place in the table.

Basel head into the match in need of a positive result after being thrashed 5-1 by Real Madrid last time out.

Despite seeing their European campaign get off to a bad start, the Swiss champions are looking strong domestically with seven wins out of 10 putting them two points clear at the top of the standings.

Daniel Sturridge could return for the visitors, while Glen Johnson, Joe Allen and Emre Can remain sidelined. Former Liverpool full-back Philipp Degen will miss out due to a foot problem for Basel.
