Team News: Luis Suarez, Steven Gerrard start for Liverpool

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers hands Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez their first Europa League starts of the season for the visit of Anzhi Makhachkala.

Brendan Rodgers has named Steven Gerrard and Luis Suarez in the starting XI for Liverpool's Europa League match against Anzhi Makhachkala tonight.

The Reds welcome the big-spending Russians to Anfield having won one and lost one of each of their opening two fixtures in this season's competition.

In a bid to improve his side's qualification chances, Rodgers has turned to the key duo, who had been rested for the previous two matches.

Central defensive pair Daniel Agger and Martin Skrtel also make their first start of Liverpool's Europa League campaign.

Brad Jones continues in goal in the absence of injured Pepe Reina, while youngster Andre Wisdom and summer signing Oussama Assaidi are also handed starts.

Former Barcelona and Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto'o captains the visitors, who also boast former Premier League talents Christopher Samba and Yuri Zhirkov in their side.

Liverpool: Jones; Wisdom, Agger, Skrtel, Johnson; Shelvey, Gerrard, Sahin, Downing; Assaidi, Suarez

Anzhi: Vladimir Gabulov; Agalarov, Samba, Joao Carlos, Zhirkov; Shatov, Georgi Gabulov, Boussoufa, Carcela-Gonzalez; Eto'o, Smolov
