Iwan Roberts believes that Liverpool should keep hold of Andy Carroll when he finishes his loan spell at West Ham United in the summer.

Former Norwich City striker and lifelong Liverpool fan Iwan Roberts believes that Reds manager Brendan Rodgers should give Andy Carroll a chance to prove himself at Anfield.

The 24-year-old's future appears to be in doubt as Liverpool are seemingly keen to offload the frontman in the summer when he finishes his season-long loan deal at West Ham United.

"I think he could do a good job at Liverpool, I really do," Roberts told talkSPORT. "I don't agree he is just a big target man.

"There is more to his game than that. He can hold the ball up, he's got a terrific strike with his left foot, he's got a good touch, he brings people into the game.

"I can't help but think that he can fit into that Liverpool side, with [Luis] Suarez on one side and [Daniel] Sturridge on the other. I think whoever gets him will be getting a tremendous player."

West Ham boss Sam Allardyce has admitted that he wants to keep hold of Carroll but financial restrictions may prevent a transfer from going through, while Newcastle United are also thought to be interested.
