Emre Can: 'Germany Under-21s exit shameful'

Liverpool midfielder Emre Can calls Germany Under-21s' exit "shameful" after they were well beaten by Portugal.

Emre Can has described Germany Under-21s' exit from Euro 2015 as "shameful" after they were outclassed by Portugal Under-21s in the semi-finals.

Three first-half goals gave Portugal a healthy lead, before Joao Mario and Ricardo Horta sealed a 5-0 victory to hand Germany their heaviest loss at an U21 finals.

Liverpool midfielder Can shouldered much of the blame, calling it "a dark day for all of Germany", according to Uefa.com.

Can said: "I talked a lot this tournament, big talk even, I wanted to win the title. I don't know why, but for some reason, I didn't give it my best out there. If I am honest, it is just shameful."

Despite losing, Germany secured qualification for the Olympic Games for the first time since 1988.
