Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany says that everyone needs to 'steady on' about the club winning the Premier League against Manchester United.

Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany has attempted to play down suggestions that his team could secure the Premier League title against Manchester United.

A 2-0 victory over Stoke City on Monday night means that Pep Guardiola's side are just two wins away from securing the crown.

If the North-West outfit defeat Everton in their next fixture, then a win against their arch-rivals United at the Etihad Stadium will seal the deal.

After the match against Stoke at the bet365 Stadium, Kompany told Sky Sports News: "Every win brings you closer to your goal but we want to keep this standard until the end of the season and into the next season too.

"It's a massive boost for us to play the game like we do. Everybody in the blue side of Manchester knows it's a once in a lifetime opportunity [to win the title against United] but steady, it won't be handed to us."

City, who have won the Premier League twice before, have a 16-point lead at the top of the table.
