Sir Alex Ferguson wanted Robin van Persie to take the penalty that Nani missed during Manchester United's victory over Galatasaray on Wednesday.

Sir Alex Ferguson has taken the blame for Nani's penalty miss during the Champions League win over Galatasaray on Wednesday evening.

The Portuguese winger missed United's third penalty of the season and Ferguson admitted that he would have preferred Robin van Persie to have taken the responsibility from 12 yards.

When asked why Nani took the spot kick, Ferguson replied: "I have no idea. I think Nani just ran and grabbed the ball.

"I thought Robin should have taken it. I think we will have to decide before the game, which is my fault. I should have done that."

Ferguson's attentions will now switch back to the Premier League as the Red Devils prepare to face Liverpool on Sunday.
