Manchester United and Man City both suffer injury blows in the first half of the derby, with Raphael Varane limping off for the visitors and Kyle Walker for the hosts.

Manchester United's miserable Manchester derby first half was compounded when Raphael Varane was forced off through injury shortly before half time.

The Red Devils were blown away by their local rivals in the opening 45 minutes at the Etihad Stadium, with two goals apiece from Phil Foden and Erling Braut Haaland seeing Man City take a 4-0 lead into half time.

Varane and his centre-back partner Lisandro Martinez struggled to deal with the rampant hosts, and things got worse for Varane when he picked up an injury shortly after the half-hour mark.

The France international was off the pitch when Haaland rose to nod home a corner for Man City's second goal, before the prolific Norwegian added his second just three minutes later.

Having unsuccessfully attempted to carry on, Varane was eventually forced off four minutes before the interval, being replaced by Victor Lindelof.

However, the change did nothing to stem the flow of Man City attacks, with Foden adding his side's fourth three minutes after Lindelof's introduction.

Man City also suffered an injury blow at the same time, with Kyle Walker limping off to be replaced by Sergio Gomez.
