Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim says that he will speak to Alejandro Garnacho about his decision to head down the tunnel when he was replaced against Ipswich Town.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim has revealed that he will speak to Alejandro Garnacho about the forward's decision to head straight down the tunnel when he was replaced against Ipswich Town on Wednesday night.

Garnacho was withdrawn for Noussair Mazraoui shortly before the half-time break at Old Trafford, with Amorim needing to make a change after Patrick Dorgu was handed a red card.

The 20-year-old looked incredibly frustrated when he headed off the field, and he went straight down the tunnel rather than sit on the bench for the latter stages of the first half of the contest.

"It was cold and wet, rainy. The thing was we would play more in 5-3-1, then we make sub, we had to choose someone to go out. I had to think about set pieces, was my choice," Amorim told reporters during his post-match press conference.

The Man United head coach said that he will speak to Garnacho about the incident and will then address the situation further during his press conference ahead of Sunday's FA Cup clash with Fulham.

"You are comparing with [Marcus] Rashford? I am going to talk with Garnacho about that. You can ask me at the next press conference," Amorim added after his side's 3-2 success.

Garnacho took to social media after Man United's win over Fulham

Garnacho posted a picture of him looking disappointed on his Instagram story shortly after the match had ended.

The 20-year-old was heavily linked with a move away from Man United during the January transfer window, with both Napoli and Chelsea believed to be keen on his services.

The Argentina international has a contract at Old Trafford until June 2028, but the Red Devils would allegedly consider serious offers for him this summer due to his status as a homegrown player.

Garnacho's suitability for Amorim's 3-4-3 system continues to be called into question, with his best work coming in a wide area, and he has only managed three Premier League goals and one assist during the 2024-25 campaign.

Amorim must now decide whether Garnacho will be involved against Fulham on Sunday afternoon, as Man United look to book their spot in the quarter-finals of the famous competition.
