Manchester United defender Jonny Evans has been ruled out of Saturday's Premier League clash with Luton Town at Old Trafford.
The 35-year-old was forced off in the first 15 minutes of United's disappointing 4-3 defeat away against Copenhagen in the Champions League on Wednesday with a muscle problem, and manager Erik ten Hag has since revealed that he will not recover in time for this weekend's encounter with the Hatters.
The absence of Evans will likely see Raphael Varane – who replaced the Northern Irishman against Copenhagen – start in central defence alongside Harry Maguire, although Victor Lindelof is also in contention to feature.
Man United are still having to cope without Casemiro (hamstring), Lisandro Martinez (foot), Luke Shaw (muscle), Amad Diallo and Tyrell Malacia (both knee), due to injury, while Jadon Sancho (disciplinary) remains unavailable for selection.
Ten Hag could stick with Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Diogo Dalot at right-back and left-back respectively, forcing Sergio Reguilon to begin as a substitute once again, while a midfield triumvirate of Scott McTominay, Christian Eriksen and Bruno Fernandes could remain intact, although Sofyan Amrabat and Mason Mount will hope that Ten Hag opts to freshen up his side for the clash with Luton.
Marcus Rashford, who was shown a straight red card in the defeat to Copenhagen, is available for section this weekend and could switch over the left flank at the expense of Alejandro Garnacho, with either Facundo Pellistri or Antony returning to start on the right.
Rasmus Hojlund's performance in front of goal was one of few positives to take away from United's midweek trip to Denmark, and the striker – who netted twice against Copenhagen – is expected to lead the line once again, with Anthony Martial providing cover on the bench.
Manchester United possible starting lineup: Onana; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Maguire, Dalot; McTominay, Eriksen; Pellistri, Fernandes, Rashford; Hojlund
