Eddie Howe delivers an update on two Newcastle United players who have been linked with a move away from the club this month.

Eddie Howe has delivered an update on Newcastle United duo Miguel Almiron and Lloyd Kelly amidst speculation surrounding their futures at the club.

Almiron has spent the last five years at St James' Park and has made a total of 222 appearances for the Magpies across all competitions, scoring 30 goals and registering 22 assists.

However, the 30-year-old winger has fallen down the pecking order under Howe this season and has been limited to only one start and seven substitute outings in the Premier League.

It is understood that Almiron's former club Atlanta United are pushing to re-sign the Paraguay international on a permanent basis, with the Daily Mail claiming that Newcastle are set to accept a £10m offer from the MLS side.

Meanwhile, defender Kelly has also been linked with an exit from the Magpies, just six months after joining the club on a free transfer from Bournemouth.

The Athletic claim that Jose Mourinho's Fenerbahce have seen an £11m bid rejected by Newcastle for Kelly, who - like Almiron - has struggled for game time this term, making just nine Premier League appearances.

Almiron exit rumours "not ideal" for Howe

Howe has confirmed that he expects Almiron to train and be part of Newcastle's squad for Saturday's Premier League clash with Bournemouth, and has admitted that the potential exit of the winger is "not ideal".

Speaking at a press conference on Friday, Howe said: "The latest is we expect him for training today and in the squad tomorrow.

"With him, anything can happen at this moment. He's been top class. He lives his life through the football club. It's not ideal but that's the reality of PSR (Profit and Sustainability Rules)"

Howe added: "It's not ideal, but I don't think it's ideal from anyone's viewpoint. We don't want to lose players, but we know there's a reality to PSR.

"We don't want to lose players but we know that there's a reality with PSR and the ongoing managing of that situation.

"We've said many times over the last few weeks we'll make more decisions not based on football, but based on decisions that we potentially have to make for the future.

"He's happy, a brilliant professional. He will come in every day and his training performances, his focus, his personality has been consistent. I've no issues with him on that side."

Howe shuts down Kelly links with Fenerbahce

Responding to speculation linking Kelly with Fenerbahce, Howe said: "Lloyd has not talked to me about leaving the football club.

"I think he's only just joined and I think there's an understanding from his perspective that he's got to earn the right to play and prove that he deserves to play ahead of other players.

"So there's been absolutely no issue. He's been great to work with and I knew he would be. He's waiting for his opportunities, so there's no issue with Lloyd at all.

"Whatever rumours you're hearing are likely from Fenerbahce and not from the player, so I want to make that very clear and Lloyd's an important part of what we're doing."

Kelly is under contract at St James' Park until June 2029 and is also in contention to feature for Newcastle against Bournemouth this weekend.
