David Moyes praises Danny Welbeck

Manchester United manager David Moyes backs Danny Welbeck to find the net on a regular basis.

David Moyes has described Danny Welbeck as "important" to Manchester United.

The England centre-forward has often been criticised for not scoring enough goals, but he did find the net on two occasions during Sunday's 3-0 victory away at Aston Villa.

That took his tally for the season to five goals in all competitions and his manager has backed the 23-year-old to add even more over the coming weeks.

"He's a good player and his goals will help him. He's important to me and hopefully he can get a level of performance which keeps getting him goals," Moyes told reporters.

"He's always been labelled with that - does he score enough goals? He has got us a few this season, though he had a period of injury, which was disappointing.

"We like Danny a lot. He works well every day, he came up through the academy and he's one of United's own. He's really important to this club."

Welbeck has scored 24 goals since he made his senior United debut in 2008.
