Sports Mole analyses Parma's 1-0 home victory over Inter Milan in Serie A on Monday.

Parma have defeated Inter Milan 1-0 at home to climb up to seventh in the Serie A table.

Nicola Sansone's goal in the 75th minute saw the hosts pick up maximum points at Stadio Ennio Tardini to leave Andrea Stramaccioni's side four points behind leaders Juventus in fourth.

Here Sports Mole takes a closer look to see if the result was fair.

Match statistics:

Parma:
Shots 16
On target 5
Possession 41%
Corners 8
Fouls 9

Inter Milan:
Shots 12
On target 5
Possession 59%
Corners 7
Fouls 18

Was the result fair?

Yes. Inter looked rusty and lacklustre in their attacking moves and, despite having the bulk of the possession, failed to craft the final ball. On the other hand, Parma looked more assured, confident and inventive in their attacking forays and deservedly bagged the points at Stadio Ennio Tardini.

Parma's performance

Parma coach Roberto Donadoni will be pleased with how his side played against one of the Serie A title contenders, especially with how his attacking players did not get scared to run at the opposition's defence. The home side were very confident and constructive in their attacking ventures and put pressure on the Inter defence from all angles. However, they were susceptible at the back, with goalkeeper Antonio Mirante being called into action at regular intervals.

Inter Milan's performance

The Nerazzurri were far from imaginative in attack, with Ricardo Alvarez and Rodrigo Palacio having an off day. Striker Diego Milito lacked service from the midfield, which failed to be constructive with the possession it had and was scrappy at times. Coach Stramaccioni will be far from happy at the way the former Italian champions conceded the only goal of the game in the 75th minute when Sansone was allowed to run at goal virtually unchallenged.

Sports Mole's man of the match

Antonio Mirante: Parma as a team played well against Inter Milan, but they will be grateful to goalkeeper Antonio Mirante for making the saves when he did. He made a total of five saves and always looked confident and calm under pressure between the posts. Esteban Cambiasso and Fredy Guarin were among the Inter players who were denied by Mirante.

Referee's performance

Luca Banti had a good and professional game. There were no major controversial moments and he dished out the cards intelligently and at the right moments.

What next?

Parma: Donadoni's side face another stiff test next weekend when they take on Lazio in Rome.

Inter Milan: The Nerazzurri will be looking to return to winning ways in Serie A against Palermo at home next weekend.
