With the tie finely poised at 1-1 after the first leg, Schalke moved ahead before two away goals from the Turkish side took the advantage away from them.
Early on it was Gala who started better and Didier Drogba missed a pair of chances inside the first 10 minutes.
However, it was Schalke who went ahead in the 17th minute when Fernando Muslera spilled a corner and Roman Neustadter managed to lash home in a crowded penalty area.

Wesley Sneijder came within inches of bringing the visitors level in the 35th minute with a first-time shot before Gala grabbed the equaliser.
Former Schalke midfielder Hamit Altintop collected the ball 30 yards from goal and let fly with a vicious effort that dipped past Timo Hildebrand and in off the post.
Just four minutes later Galatasaray had their second when a challenge inside their own half ricocheted forward and Burak Yilmaz outpaced Benedikt Howedes before toeing a lob over Hildebrand to continue his prolific run of scoring in the competition.
