Swansea dominated the opening period, becoming the first team to score against West Bromwich Albion in the first half-hour of a game this season.
Pablo Hernandez provided a cross to Miguel Michu after nine minutes to give the Swans the lead.
Boaz Myhill was beaten again two minutes later, Wayne Routledge providing the finish.
Routledge added a second towards the end of the opening half, but Romelu Lukaku gave the Baggies hope with a goal on the stroke of half-time.
A change of tactics saw a more attacking West Brom in the second half, Peter Odemwingie joining Lukaku up front.
However, the visitors were unable to reduce the gap further, with Swansea preventing West Brom from creating too many opportunities.
The loss sees the Baggies drop to fourth in the Premier League table, while Swansea climb to seventh.
