Ben Foster refuses to come out of international retirement.

West Bromwich Albion goalkeeper Ben Foster has ruled out making a return to the international game.

The 29-year-old has spent the season at Albion on loan from Championship side Birmingham City and has impressed new England manager Roy Hodgson at the Hawthorns.

Former England goalkeeper Peter Shilton, as well as Hodgson, wants Foster to challenge for the national side's number one jersey, but the former Manchester United stopper is reluctant to change his mind.

"I'm still exactly the same. I've had a very good chat with the boss this week and he has told me of his plans and stuff," said Foster.

"I've said all along my best form has been since I retired from England and I feel my body gets a good rest, and I feel it needs that rest as well.

"Roy tried hard to persuade me to change my mind. But he totally understood my reasons why and was very respectful of that and understood my decision and my way of thinking."

Hodgson will announce his 23-man squad for the European Championships on Wednesday.
