David Moyes has revealed that West Ham United were interested in signing Ivan Toney before he made the move from Peterborough United to Brentford in 2020.
The 25-year-old has made a bright start for the Bees in the Premier League, scoring two goals and providing two assists in his last four appearances, and he will be hoping to add to his tally against the Hammers on Sunday.
West Ham have recently been in the market for a central striker and Moyes has confirmed that Toney was on the club's radar when he plied his trade in League One.
"We scouted him a lot at Peterborough. Sometimes you find something, sometimes you don't. He was certainly one in the do we don't we category when he was at Peterborough," Moyes told the press ahead of this weekend's clash against the Bees.
However, the Scotsman was keen to state that West Ham had no interest in signing Toney from Brentford this summer and claims that any rumours over a potential move were false.
Moyes added: "Any talk about we were going to do something in the summer, that was wrong."
Toney was at the forefront of Brentford's promotion campaign from the Championship last season, finding the net 31 times in 45 appearances, before scoring two more goals in the playoffs.
